New Chapter staff turn Apprentices

17 March 2016

As part of the Training & Development given to staff here at New Chapter, we have a Future Leaders & Rising Stars Academy, which provides quarterly training to everyone within the company.

Held on Friday 11th March, this year’s first training day had a twist! It involved plenty of serious fun and was different to any previously held training. All new Chapter staff gathered in London to take part in a surprise ‘Apprentice' task, where everyone was divided into two groups to take on the well-known ‘Shopping List’ task.

The day provided a chance for everyone to develop their skills in team working, planning, influencing and negotiating, as well as being able to build a stronger working relationship with fellow colleagues.

The ‘Shopping List’ wasn’t just any ordinary list, there was a meaningful motive behind searching the streets of London, from Angel to Southwark and from Bond Street to White Chapel, with only 5 hours to gather all the items. The motive was The Simon Community - a charity that live and work with London’s street homeless. As a way of giving something back, New Chapter would donate all items – which included things like toothpaste, coffee and playing cards.

The Simon Community has been working since 1963 to alleviate the isolation of people sleeping rough in London, provide a place where they can gain a sense of belonging and foster the skills they need to move towards independent living.

We received tremendous support from local business around London who donated a number of items to the Community - a huge thank you to all of you! Thanks to Cambro and Starbucks on the Strand for donating a Cambro 19.9L beverage dispenser, which will be used for tea/coffee outreach runs around London. Also, thank you to Malcolm at Silvermans for donating sleeping bags for those sleeping rough on the streets.

To acknowledge the day’s success, all staff celebrated in style at The Yacht London situated at Temple Pier. Well done to everyone at New Chapter on their tremendous achievements and for helping make a difference to the lives of the homeless community in London.
