Grads within the FMCG sector – a hot bed of talent…

10 October 2016

At the beginning of each year we conduct extensive research to gather a plethora of data relating to salary levels and benefits packages within the FMCG sector. Publically released annually in June, the survey results (representing over 6,000 individual data findings) allow us to guide clients and candidates on the most appropriate remuneration levels across multiple job categories.

2016’s findings uncovered many trends, particularly when compared with data from the last three years. In this year’s survey we identified that whilst salaries across most job functions and roles had remained fairly stagnant from 2015, there has been a marked increase in the salary levels offered for graduate or entry level positions across sales, marketing and technical/operational job categories.

Graduate recruitment is key to many companies who wish to "grow their own" talent and the FMCG sector is currently highly focused on this talent hot bed. The noticeable 10-15% rise in basic level salaries across the UK for graduate hires is indicative of an industry that highly values the long-term benefits that graduate recruits bring to a business. Notably…

Affordable: Graduates offer companies an affordable way to boost their talent pool with highly intelligent, qualified individuals

Ready and willing: Graduates offer you the opportunity to shape them into what you need, so that they become part of your culture. They are often perceived as a "blank canvas", open to new ideas, ways of working and experiences and keen to learn.

Skilled: Studying helps students develop core transferable skills such as written and oral communication, problem-solving, presentation, organisation and data analysis. Technical graduates will also have up to date specialist or technical skills gained from studies.  Many will have experience of applying academic knowledge through work placements while studying.

New perspective: Graduates can inject new ideas and apply current thinking from academia. Recruiting graduates can also increase diversity within the work team.

Speed: Graduates often learn more quickly and provide more immediate financial return than other talent categories. They are more enthusiastic and willing to take on challenges. Graduates understand and have the ability to readily adapt to change.

Succession planning: By providing a career path for graduates and enabling them to reach management level within your organisation will help you to solve any succession planning concerns.
