Cycling for Cystic Fibrosis

03 November 2015

As part of their fundraising efforts, New Chapter completed a 24 hour static bike ride in the heart of Leeds, raising just under £2,100. The 24 hours began at 12pm on Thursday 22nd October and involved just short of 25 staff from New Chapter who pedalled a total 46 hours.

In teams of 6 teams, each person pedalled for 2 hours. The staff at New Chapter enjoyed pedalling away for a good cause and doing something that was different to their normal work routine. The teams even came up with their own unique names, such as the ‘Cyclepaths’ and ‘They see me rollin’.

Each year New Chapter employees vote for their charity of choice based upon employee nominations. The Cystic Fibrosis Trust was nominated this year following one of New Chapter’s staff speaking about her personal experience after almost losing a friend three years ago to the disease. The Trust offers support to the sick and their families, as well as pioneering research that offers hope to sufferers throughout the UK.

New Chapter received great support from both the public and local businesses. A couple of the local restaurants fuelled the cyclists by providing food and drink. The public showed their support by encouraging the cyclists as they walked past, donating generously, and even volunteering as cyclists during the middle of the night.

Adrian Dalby, New Chapter's Managing Director commented, "It was fantastic to see everyone at New Chapter come together and support one another. Not only was the bike ride a good way of raising money for the CF Trust, it was a great bonding opportunity for our new employees.
