New Chapter maps the Sales Director talent pool for Nestle Purina

29 November 2012

The Challenge

Part of the Nestlé Group, Nestlé Purina Petcare is one of the world's leading pet care companies and produce some of the best known, and best loved, pet food brands; many of which have served pet owners and their pets for generations.

The business offers a strong internal career path for its employees and following the progression of their UK Grocery Sales Director into a Country Management role, they approached us to help ensure an exhaustive search of the market was conducted to find a replacement. The challenge was to analyse the UK FMCG Sales Leadership talent pool to identify the candidates with the experience, behaviours and capability to deliver Purina’s strategic goals.

The New Chapter Solution

We followed our proprietary Five2TM approach to recruitment which has 5 stages each with 5 steps to ensure that we deliver the very best our industry has to offer.

Initially we met with key stakeholders in the business to understand the objectives and responsibilities of the position, gain a deep understanding of the culture and values of the organisation and the behavioural competencies required to be successful within Nestlé Purina. We agreed the approach we would take and generated a project plan which mapped out when each stage of the project would be delivered.

Our in-house research team undertook an extensive market mapping exercise focusing on 50 target FMCG organisations, identifying and profiling 250 candidates. This utilised our full range of candidate sourcing strategies from our in-house database through to web 2.0 technologies. At this stage we conducted an initial long-list meeting to discuss the key outputs from this in terms of market intelligence and agreed on 15 candidates to progress with in a more formal basis.

We conducted face to face competency based interviews structured around Nestlé’s Leadership framework and presented back detailed reports on our suggested short-list highlighting key skills and behavioural fit , as well as their reasons for being interested in the role.

The Results

A short-list of 4 candidates was agreed upon and interviewed. Our detailed approach to candidate identification and thoroughness of our assessment of candidates enabled Nestlé Purina to be confident that they had recruited the best talent available in the market place for this key role.

What the Client Says…

Marina Kilcline - Head of HR - Nestlé Purina UK Limited

"New Chapter strive to understand the culture of the company they are working with. They believe in developing a partnership to support the growth of our organisation and consistently have gone beyond the scope expected in offering benchmarking information to assist us with our organisational development. The differentiating factor is that the short-list is tightly matched to both the person specification and culture of the organisation."
